4-20 mA output or a digital protocol?
The 4-20 mA signal is simple and widely used. HART carries diagnostic information over the same signal, and protocols such as Foundation Fieldbus or Profibus allow more data to be exchanged over a network. The choice depends on the existing control system.
What matters when selecting a flowmeter?
The fluid type (gas, liquid or steam), electrical conductivity, required accuracy and allowable pressure drop are the deciding factors. For example, an electromagnetic flowmeter is suitable only for conductive liquids, and a Coriolis flowmeter measures mass flow directly.
